Frequently Asked Questions

Where is your office located?
Tulsa DBT is located in the Zoellner Center just off the corner of 31st and Harvard.  The address is 3010 S. Harvard Ave., suite 306.

Parking is available in the lot surrounding the building.

I don’t know what my diagnosis is. Can DBT work for me?

Many of the clients we have seen that have had great success with DBT did not know their diagnosis or have an inaccurate diagnosis. We will get enough information from you during our initial phone consultation to determine if you’re a good candidate for this treatment. If we don’t believe DBT is the right treatment for you, we will provide you with referrals for other treatment options.

I’ve been diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder and have been in therapy for years. How could DBT work for me when all the therapy I’ve already done hasn’t worked?
DBT is not your usual therapy. We will identify what is getting in the way of the life you want to have and systematically eliminate each of those barriers. Although DBT works for many disorders and problems, it was created for BPD! It has been dubbed the “gold standard” for treatment of BPD because of oodles of research backing its effectiveness.

DBT can work when other treatments have not because it is different. DBT is structured so that you will increase your capabilities with skillful behavior, stay motivated in treatment, and provide you with support to apply the skills you learn to real-life situations when you need help the most.

Why don’t you accept insurance?

We don’t take insurance, so you get better treatment. Really!! Hear us out on this… Not spending hours each day dealing with insurance companies for authorizations or jumping through their paperwork hoops allows us more time and energy to give to you, our clients.

Most importantly, with a cash-based practice, we get to decide together on your treatment (frequency and length of sessions, treatment modality, how long treatment should last, etc.) – NOT the insurance company.

Your insurance company doesn’t know you (and they’re not trained therapists, either) and can only take a guess at what you need. The treatment plan that we develop will be tailored to your specific needs and goals.

And one more thing! For a variety of reasons, you may not want your insurance company to know your treatment or diagnosis. When you pay out-of-pocket for services, you can maintain your privacy.

Those are all great reasons, but what if I still want to use my insurance?

We are happy to assist you with filing with your insurance for Out-of-Network (OON) benefits. We will provide you with a superbill (this is a bill with all the details the insurance company needs) for you to give your insurance company. The process of filing for OON reimbursement can get tricky, but there are apps for your phone that do all the work for you, for a low fee. We can help you locate and use those, too, if you’d prefer.

How much does treatment cost?

This depends on which treatment is right for you. We will give you a break down of costs at the initial appointment (diagnostic assessment) or during the pre-screening call.

What is your cancellation policy?

We ask that you cancel your appointment at least 24 hours before the scheduled appointment. Sessions cancelled within 24 hours of the appointment and no call/no shows will be charged in full for the session.

How long is a typical session?
Typical DBT sessions are 60 minutes. Prolonged exposure sessions are 90.
What type of clients do you work with?

We work with adults and teens. All genders/preferences/identities, ethnicities and socio-economic statuses are welcomed and appreciated.

If you want something you never had, you have to do something you’ve never done.
